David Hutchings, Jr. was born in Thomasville, Ga., where he graduated from Thomasville High School. He attended Auburn University and Valdosta State College where he earned a B.S. degree in business administration. He worked in banking in Atlanta, Ga. and in business in Jacksonville, Fl. He and his wife, Janet, moved back home to Thomasville to raise a family. He went to work for the State of Georgia Probation Division where he worked as a probation officer for eight years. He ran for Clerk of Superior Court in 1980 and was elected and took office in 1981. |
He has served as president of the Superior Court Clerk's Association of Georgia and has been honored twice as District Clerk of the Year. He has taught on several occasions at clerk conferences and has authored sections for the clerk's manual. He was recipient of the Liberty Bell award in Thomas County in 1988.
He has been very active in civic and charitable organizations in Thomas County, serving as president of the Thomasville Kiwanis Club, the United Way of Thomas County, and the American Cancer Society. He served as volunteer coach of several sports in the YMCA and as president of the high school band boosters.
